We have made it to the final week of term. Well done Otters! There has been some more super learning this week.
In English, we have had a grammar focus this week. We have looked at how to use 'was' and 'were' correctly. We have thought carefully about the simple past and present perfect tenses. We have also learnt where to use both semi-colons and colons in sentences.
In Year 5 Maths we have been working to use both rulers and protractors to accurately draw lines and angles. We had to spend a bit longer on this objective as we found it a bit tricky but with lots of practise, everyone made lots of progress. We then moved on to calculating angles around a point and then calculating angles on a straight line. In Year 4, we have been looking at making a whole with tenths and with hundredths. We have also been partitioning decimals.
We have finished our Forces unit this week and really enjoyed investigating gravity, friction, air resistance and water resistance. In our final week we looked at gears, levers and pulleys. The Otters designed contraptions that used these mechanisms and explained how they worked. We also did our assessment to see all that we have learnt and Mrs Cotton was very impressed with what they had learned and remembered. After half term, the we will be learning about Earth and Space. In French we matched sentences about the beach to images. Finally, in PSHE we learned about refugees and then created graffiti wall with words that we associated with what refugees go through when leaving their home.
In RE we have looked at the Jewish place of worship - the synagogue. We have looked at both the Orthodox Synagogue and the Reform Synagogue and we have written down the similarities and the differences.
Spellings:
Year 4 - Prefix inter-
Year 5 - Words containing the letter string ough
Have a lovely week. Get lots of rest ready for a busy summer term 2!
