Pumpkin Event

A huge well done and thank you to all those who entered a Pumpkin into our pumpkin competition this week! They all looked fantastic!

The Foxes have well and truly settled in this half term! We have had a very busy 7 weeks together and they are ready for a well-earned week off! Here is what we have been up to this week!

In English this week, the children have been developing their skills in proofreading, editing, and improving their writing. We began with a dictation and transcription activity, where the children listened carefully to a passage and transcribed it into their books, paying close attention to correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation. In our second lesson, we explored sentence structure by writing simple sentences based on pairs of pictures. The emphasis was on mastering the fundamentals of grammar, including capital letters and full stops. To round off the week, the children applied their editing skills to enhance a story. They added rich detail and description using a variety of literary techniques, such as figurative language and the 'show not tell' approach to expressing emotions. It’s wonderful to see the progress they’re making in their writing—keep up the great work, Foxes!

In Maths this week, Year 6 have spent this week consolidating their learning from the term. This included completing an end-of-unit assessment on the four operations, revisiting long multiplication and long division methods, and engaging in activities to further strengthen their reasoning and problem-solving skills. The Year 5s have now begun their work on multiplication and division. So far, they’ve been identifying multiples of numbers and using known facts to support their reasoning.

In History, we continued our exploration of Henry VIII’s wives. We discussed what their marriages to Henry were like and uncovered the outcomes of their lives. After the break, we’ll move forward in history to learn about the reigns of King Edward VI and Queen Elizabeth I—exciting times ahead!
