WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

W/c 15th September 2025

What a super week the Puffins have had. This week we have learnt about place value in Maths, we have created our own story involving feelings and literary devices that we have learnt as well as learning about how the Tudors came to power. Read on to find out more…

In English, we planned and wrote our own story that used the literary devices that we have been learning about this week. These included a variety of Alan Peat sentences included ‘The more, the more’, ‘3-ed sentences’ and emotion sentences and personification of weather. Can you tell your grown-up an example of each of these sentences… They created their own storyline and characters and thought about the emotions that these characters could ‘show not tell’. Next week we are going to begin planning and writing our stories aimed at 3-7 year olds. We have thought about the features of these types of stories today and created a poster detailing them.

In Maths, Year 5 learnt about place value. We thought about understanding numbers to 100, 000, 1,000,000 as well as understanding and applying the power of 10. Can you explain this True or False question to your grown-up?

In Maths, Year 6 have also been learning about place value. They have learnt about the power of 10, comparing and ordering any numbers, as well as rounding any numbers and negative numbers. Can you explain this True or False question to your grown-up?

Our Topic lessons this week involved us investigating some artefacts from Tudor times.  We firstly thought about what these artefacts were and what they were used for in the Tudor times. We then decided if they were useful in telling us about their lifestyle. Our second lesson involved us learning about the War of the Roses, who was involved and how the Tudors came to power. We thought about the different monarchs that were involved and why they made the choice to go to war. Can you tell your grown up which house had the emblem of the red rose and which had the emblem of the white?

Homework was handed out on Tuesday this week and should be given in by next Tuesday.
