WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Week 1 - 23.2.26

What a fantastic first week back! Look below to find out what learning we have done this week.

Maths

In our Maths learning, we have been learning about number bonds to 20. This is quite a tricky concept to understand as it builds on our knowledge of number bonds to 10. We used resources such as number beads, ten frames, and part-whole models to find number bonds to 20. We even used 'butterflies' to help find all the number bonds to 20, and found that there were 21 number bonds to 20! Can you tell your grown-up a number bond to 20?

Here are some games to help with understanding number bonds to 20.

Here are some photos of us finding number bonds systematically.

English

In our English learning, we have started our new unit of writing. Our next genre is fairytale stories, and we are looking at the classic story of Jack and the Beanstalk. The children started to learn some vocabulary about Jack and the Beanstalk. We did some fun activities this week to get us engaged in the vocabulary of Jack and the Beanstalk. We did an adjective generating game called "The Chocolate Bar" game where children had to fill their chocolate bars by getting adjectives from other children to describe Jack, the giant and the beanstalk. The children loved it! Can you come up with adjectives to describe these nouns below?

Geography

In our Geography work this week, the children worked on creating sketch maps of our local area. We looked at a map of Repton and thought about what human features and physical features we should include in our map. The children drew some fantastic maps!

We also started to look at what a Kenyan village looks like. We started by reading the books "Mama Panya's Pancakes" which is about life in a Kenyan village. The children drew and wrote about what they could see in the story.

Phonics

In our Phonics this week, we have been learning the 'are' spelling that makes the /air/ sound. We also learned that 'y' at the end of words normally make the /ee/ sound. We also learned that the digraph ph, can make the /f/ sound. Please use the time to read Monster Phonics booklets to consolidate any sounds that your child may struggle with.

Dictation sentences to practise:

The happy puppy can run fast.

I can hear the phone ring.

The hare sat on the chair.

It is a sunny day today.

Phil got a trophy for his run.

Art

In Art, we started our new Art unit which is called 3D Paper Art Structures. We started this unit off by practising different skills with paper, such as rolling, curving, folding, cutting and sticking. We practised making tube towers. Here are some of our cool crafts below!

There should be Parents Evening letters in your child's bag. Please can you return them physically to me as soon as possible, preferably by the end of next week (6/3/26). I will start allocating slots once I have received the majority of slips back.

Have a lovely weekend!
