Welcome back to a new term! This term is going to be a busy (but fun) one with our Christmas production to look forward too, and lots of exciting learning coming up! Read below to find out what we have been doing this week.
Maths
In our Maths learning this week, we have been learning all about number bonds. A number bond is a pair of numbers that add to make a specific number. We started the week by looking at numbers up to 10. We used part-whole models to practise making numbers in different ways. Look at the part-whole models below, what number bonds are they showing?

(If you wanted to have a go at building your own part-whole models, here is the link to the website that I use https://ictgames.com/mobilePage/partPartWhole/index.html)
We also learned that we can swap the number sentence around like this so the whole is at the front of the number sentence.
7 = 4 + 3
7 = 3 + 4
Can you create some addition sentences for these part-whole models below?

English
In our English learning this week, we have been recapping our learning on non-chronological reports. We have been learning to write in the style of non-chronological reports by learning how to use question marks and capital letters. We have been learning how to come up with questions and information about a picture. Here is a picture below of one of the animals from Oi! Get off our train! What questions could we come up with about the tiger? What information could we write to answer the question?

Handwriting
We have also been working on our cursive handwriting for the past few weeks. These are the letters and the formations we have been practising on whiteboards recently. Please feel free to practice these at home. We have not been learning how to join letters up to other letters yet.

History
We’ve been exploring how life was different for people 100 years ago. We discovered that rich and poor families had many differences in their lifestyles, but also some surprising similarities.
Computing
In our Computing lesson, we have started our new unit on algorithms. Algorithms are a set of instructions that are in order. We learned that algorithms have to be precise and that we have to do things in certain ways e.g. brushing teeth, putting clothes on. We created our own set of instructions for dressing up a doll. The children worked in pairs to dress up a doll and write instructions on how they did it. Here are some pictures below.
Phonics and Spellings
This week in our Phonics, we have recapped all the sounds covered so far, and we have looked at two graphemes of ea. We have looked at ea in words like leaf, sea, and cream. We have also looked at ea in words like bread, feather, head. Please use the Monster Phonics booklets to practise any sounds from this week.
Christmas Nativity
We have also told the children their role in our KS1 Christmas nativity. The children are very excited! On Friday, a slip of paper went out in your child's Spelling Record Book with costume suggestions and ideas. Please can you provide your child with this costume by Monday 1st December. Any issues, please come and see me.
Have a lovely weekend!
