We have had a great week in Hedgehogs this week! Lots of busy learning, and Christmas rehearsals have been coming on well! Look below to find out what we have been learning about.
Maths
We also looked at how we can find number bonds systematically. This is a way we can find number bonds in order. For example, these are number bonds to 5 done systematically.
5 + 0 = 5
4 + 1 = 5
3 + 2 = 5
2 + 3 = 5
1 + 4 = 5
0 + 5 = 5
Challenge 1
Can you find the number bonds to 7 systematically starting with...?
7 + 0 = 7
Finally on Friday, we looked at number bonds to 10. This is a really important skill as it helps with addition facts all the way up to Year 6. We started by using numicons to find number bonds to 10. We even looked at some bar-models to 10 as well! We played a really fun game called 'Hit the Button' - which you can find here https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button (click 'Number Bonds' -> 'Make 10')
Challenge 2
Can you see if you can solve these missing bar models and find the number bonds to 10?

English
In our English learning, we have been planning and writing our own non-chronological reports of our favourite animals. The children chose an animal of their choice and thoughts of a title, introduction, and some questions and information to include in their report. I was so proud of their writing and they worked so hard. We even showed the Year 5/6 Seals class to educate them on our animals! Our writing can be found in the writing gallery of our classroom.
History
This week we have had quite an exciting week! We have been looking at events from 100 years ago that have shaped our lives today. We looked at the well-known event, The Titanic! The children have really enjoyed learning about the journey, the various different sections of the Titanic, a timeline of the events of that day, what went wrong after the collision with the iceberg, and about its fateful ending. I have attached some links below to some links that we have used in class, and some extra ones too in case your child wishes to know more!

Anti-Bullying Week and Odd Socks Day
We have really focussed on the value of Respect this week with learning about Anti-Bullying and Odd Socks Day. We learned that it is OK to be different and unique and we need to respect each other's differences. We also learned about this year's Anti-Bullying theme which is 'Power for Good', where we talked about how we can help someone who we can see is being bullied. We recognised this by working together and creating a paper chain of ideas on how to help someone who is being bullied.
Phonics and Spellings
This week, we have looked at the many graphemes for the /ur/ sound. We started to look at how er comes normally at the ends of words like her, hammer, winter etc. We then looked at a new digraph, ir, which typically comes in the middle of words. We then looked at the ur digraph, which can come in the middle and at the end of words. Please use the Monster Phonics booklets to recap any sounds your child may struggle with.

Have a lovely weekend!
