WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Week 2 - 15.9.25

We have had an amazing week this week. We have continued to learn new routines, and we have now familiarised ourselves with the learning routine. Look below to find out what we have been doing this week.

Maths

In our Maths learning this week, the children have been developing their skills in counting forwards from a given number, reading and writing numbers in words, and representing numbers in a variety of ways. To support this learning at home, I have set some Maths quizzes on Maths Shed that focus on the concepts we’ve covered this week.    https://www.mathshed.com/

Challenge 1- See if you can find out the numbers shown in the representations below. Count them carefully!

Challenge 2- See if you can read all these numbers in words in 2 minutes OR see if you can roll two dice, add the numbers together and find the number that you have made (parents might be needed to help with this!). Cross that number off and see how many numbers you can cross out in 5 minutes of doing this game.

English

In our English learning, we have been doing lots of work on our book A Rainbow of EmotionsWe have been focussing on using finger spaces and full stops this week to write sentences about the book. We have also been writing our own sentences about our own emotions. Look at the pictures taken from the story. Can you write a sentence using finger spaces and full stops about one of these pictures. Remember the chameleon is called Cam, you don't have to write chameleon!

History

In our History learning this week, we started to learn the words 'past' and 'present'. The children created a timeline of their lives so far, putting significant life events on their time lines. We then looked at what it was like for a child 100 years ago and how life was different. We looked at photographs of what children were doing and we also talked about why the photography was in black and white, and not in colour. We had lots of interesting discussions!

Other Areas of the Curriculum

In PSHE, our unit this term is on 'Exploring Emotions'. We focussed on how we can all experience different emotions for one event. We looked at our class mascot, 'Hedgie', and how he feels on his birthday.

In Computing, we looked at online safety and how we need to stay safe online. We talked about what the internet is and how if we see anything that makes us feel uncomfortable, or if someone is being unkind, we report it to a trusted adult.

In Art, we are starting a unit called 'Drawing: Exploring line and shape'. This week, we explored ways that we can make different lines. Here are some of the lines we practiced below and some pictures of our artwork too!

Phonics and Spelling

In our Phonics lessons this week, we have done the trigraph tch, the digraph ve, and we have recapped the digraph ai. We have also practised reading some tricky words and some 'nonsense words'. I have set some practise words on Spelling Shed if you wanted to practise reading and spelling these words (optional).

Spellings for this week - also available on Spelling Shed -> https://www.spellingshed.com/en-gb

Have a lovely weekend!
