WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Week 3 - 17.11.25

We have had a really nice week in the Hedgehogs! Despite the chilly, cold weather the children still have been working hard within their learning. The children have been continuing to practice their lines for the Christmas nativity. We have had also a bit of a change within the classroom, things have moved around! The children also made my birthday such a lovely day so thank you Hedgehogs! Look below to find out what we have been doing this week.

Maths

In our Maths learning, we have been learning about subtraction this week. We started off by seeing if we could find a missing part of a part-whole model by using cubes and resources to help us. We then learned how we can use other strategies to help us subtract such as drawing the whole in the form of circles, and looking at the part and crossing that many of circles off to find the remaining part. We also wrote subtraction number sentences in the form of ___ - ____ = ____ . Here are some pictures below. Can you work out the missing parts in each picture? Maybe you could write a subtraction sentence or addition sentence about it!

English

In our English learning, we have started our new unit on recount writing. The children have really enjoyed learning about the Titanic in History, so we thought to do a recount all about the Titanic! We started looking at acting out the main events leading up the Titanic colliding with the iceberg. Look at the pictures below. Can you tell your grown-ups about the events of the Titanic?

The children did some fabulous acting. The children had the chance to be creative and think about how to retell the events through their bodies. We had children pretending to be lifeboats, or pretending to be icebergs. Have a look at some of these photos below to see if you can work out which picture they are trying to retell above!

We also learned some key words to use about the Titanic. We looked at a word mat with all these different words and we sorted these words into whether they were nouns, verbs or adjectives. We are getting better at working out what words are what word classes! Have a look at the words below. Can you tell your grown-up what the words are, and if they are a noun, verb or an adjective?

History

In History, we only had one lesson this week but we created some beautiful diary entries imagining that we are on the Titanic. We looked at a real life diary entry of a girl who was a second-class passenger on board the Titanic and her experience of the event. We then talked about thoughts and feelings throughout the events of the Titanic. Next week, we will be looking at other events in the past 100 years that were significant.

PSHE

In our PSHE, we have been learning about the importance of sleep and physical activity.

Computing

In our Computing, we have been learning about inputs and outputs. Inputs are where we put information into a device, outputs are when information is giving back out. We looked at how virtual assistants like Alexa, Google Chrome, Siri, take in our verbal commands and perform what we ask it to do in the form of an output. We pretended to be virtual assistants and practiced giving verbal commands to each other and making up our own outputs!

Phonics and Spellings

This week in our Phonics we have recapped the digraphs oo, oo and oa. Please use the Monster Phonics booklets to practice any sounds that your child may struggle with.

Have a lovely weekend!
