We have had another fantastic week in the Hedgehogs class! Find out what we have been doing this week by scrolling down below.
Maths
In our Maths learning this week, we have been learning about how to count backwards from 10 - 0. We used this knowledge to help us answer some tricky problem solving questions. We also learned about how we can find one more and one less than a number by counting forwards and backwards from a specific number. There are Maths quizzes on Maths Shed based on what we have been learning about this week.
Challenge 1
Look carefully at these stacks of cubes to see if this person has counted backwards correctly.
Challenge 2
Can you complete this number track in two different ways?
English
In our English learning this week, we have spent some time writing our emotion stories. The children chose an animal for their story and talked about how their animal felt throughout their story. It was the children's first big piece of writing and they all did an exceptional job! The writing is displayed in our Writing Gallery at the back of our classroom.
History
In our History learning, we have been learning about childhood in the past 100 years. On Monday, we learned how schools were very different to how schools are today. We watched a few videos to inspire us on what the classroom and what the teachers were like a century ago. We then worked in groups with an adult to make our own classroom dioramas! Here are some of ours below. Can you tell your grown-up some features of a classroom 100 years ago? Was it nice for a child to go to school 100 years ago? What is similar and what is different between then and now?
Other Areas of the Curriculum
PSHE
This week, we recognised that it was European Languages Day. We learned a few ways of saying hello and goodbye in other languages. We then learnt that there were so many European countries, each with their own language and own flag. We decorated flags of other countries to show our awareness of other countries.
Computing
The children were very excited for this lesson! Last week, we learnt about online safety and how to stay safe when using the internet. This week, the children were taught how to login to a computer using a username and a password. The children all had a go at logging in. The children then went on Google, and we practised using our mousepad at drawing and collecting images off the website Sketchpad. Here is the link if you want to practise at home; https://sketch.io/sketchpad/. The children loved it! Here are some pictures of them working below!
Art
In Art, we continued to explore line, mark-making and pressure by drawing to the sounds of music. We looked at how Paul Klee was inspired by music for his artwork, so like him, we drew to the sounds of music too.
Phonics and Spellings
This week, we have done the digraphs ay, oi and oy, as well as recapping tricky words.
Spellings for this week - also available on Spelling Shed.
Have a lovely weekend everyone!
