WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Week 3

This week we have learned about the artist Vincent van Gogh. We looked at his paintings and focussed on his ‘Sunflowers’ as part of our Growing and Changing topic. The children talked about the painting; what they noticed, what they liked or didn’t like about it, the colours and how it made them feel. We also talked about how we thought he made the painting and why.

We painted our own sunflower ðŸŒ» paintings, using a little brush and chose the right coloured paints. We also learned about the life cycle of a sunflowers and ordered the stages by cutting and sticking on paper.

We've continued to keep an eye on our seeds and bean plants that have started to germinate, much to the children's delight!

In English we wrote our own version of The Enormous Turnip, by changing it into The Enormous Melon! We wrote the steps in the story, such as 'He put in a seed. It grew big. He pulled it out. Pop! The melon came out'.

In maths we explored adding more or taking away problems. We placed a number of jewels on a 10 frame and then hid them.  Someone added some more and we had to notice how many there had been added and how many there were now. It was tricky but a great way to focus our number sense skills. We then took some away and had to work out how many had been taken away.

In Monster Phonics this week, we have begun to read and write ccvc amd cvcc words, and read the story 'The Little Man'.

Please continue to read with your child regularly.  It really makes a difference to their confidence and fluency. Please also continue to use spelling shed.  Again, this really helps the children to develop confidence and fluency with their segmenting and spelling skills.
