WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Week 5 - 1.12.25

Two more weeks until we break up for the Christmas break! It is starting to become busier at this time of year so I appreciate your support throughout this time of year. We have had a busy week with rehearsal practice, walking to the Repton 400 Hall to have a mini-visit, as well as continuing with all our fantastic learning. Look below to find out what we have been doing this week.

Maths

In our Maths learning this week, we started to learn how we can subtract using a number line. We learnt that on a number line we go backwards when subtracting, and we go forward when adding. This is an accurate way of checking if our calculations are correct! Here is an example of what we did.

Here are some subtractions you can have a go at with a family member!

We also learnt about adding and subtracting by 1, and then 2. We learnt that to add or subtract by 2, you just add and subtract 1, and then do it again.

English

In our English learning, we finished off our Titanic recounts. The children wrote their recounts over two days and helped Mr Armishaw create his newspaper as well. The children created some fantastic pieces of writing, which they got to tea-bag stain to make them look old as if they were printed from 100 years ago! They got to take them home to show their families to let them know about this event. Well done a fantastic piece of writing Hedgehogs!

We then started to look at our final piece of writing for this term - persuasive writing. As our nativity is coming up, we thought to look at how to create a persuasive poster to get more people to come to our nativity. We started looking at the features of a poster by looking at real examples. We then learnt of reasons why our nativity is so fun and exciting, and why people should come to see our show. We learnt how to use exclamation marks to show to the reader that something is exciting. Why should our parents come to see our show?

History

Due to all the events that have happened this week, we have only had one lesson this week. We started to look at wars as they have happened in our history. Although WW1 happened over 100 years ago, it is still important for children to remember events like this. We learned about what it was like for soldiers in the trenches and what the conditions were like for them. We then created our own "RPS certificates" for WW1 soldiers and we had to come up with reasons why the soldiers deserved a certificate! Can you think of reasons why soldiers deserve a RESPECT certificate?

Phonics and Spellings

In our Phonics learning, the children have been learning about the graphemes of /ow/, ou and ow. We also learned how the ow letters can also make an ow sound (/oa/) as well. Please use the Monster Phonics booklet to consolidate any sounds from this week.
