WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Week 5

This week we asked the question 'What is a Church?'  We enjoyed our walk to St Wystan’s Church on Thursday morning.  We had the whole church to ourselves which was amazing and Reverend Steve very kindly showed us around.  We learned that Christians use the church as their place of worship. We talked about all the special areas in the church, such as the font and looked at and even tried on the special clothes that are worn in church services. Reverend Steve played the organ for us - it was very loud.  We also watched and listened to him ring the church bells!  The most exciting part was going down into the Crypt. It was very dark and cold!  We will put some pictures on our web page for you to see.  A big thank you to the parents that helped us to walk!

In English we continued our innovated writing about the story of Handa's Surprise.  This week we chose some animals to take Handa's fruits from the basket and carefully said, then wrote the sentence, such as 'The monkey took the sweet peach', etc.

In maths, we learned about 3D shapes. We talked about their properties such as flat faces or curved faces, numbers of side and corners. We talked about whether they could roll or not. We tried to remember the names of cube, cone, cuboid, cylinder and sphere. Then we printed them into playdough to see the shapes of their faces. Some of us even made repeating patterns in the dough.

We all enjoyed making our Mother's Day cards. We won't spoil the surprise, however!

In Monster Phonics this week, we have learned Tricky Witch’s phoneme ‘air’, as well as recapping the ‘igh’ trigraph from last week.  Please continue to read with your child regularly.  It really makes a difference to their confidence and fluency. Please also continue to use spelling shed.  Again, this really helps the children to develop confidence and fluency with their segmenting and spelling skills.

Next week, we will hold our Easter Bonnet Parage on Wednesday. Please see ParentHub for details on this.

Have a wonderful weekend!
