WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Week 5

This week we asked the question ‘What is a ladybird?’  We have learned all about what ladybirds do, eat, how they live, their life cycles etc.  The children can say a lot of facts about them as well as all the other minibeast we have been learning about this term.

Can you tell your grownup what you know about ladybirds?

We made ladybirds using a variety of media in the art area.  We also enjoyed making ladybird biscuits!  We decorated them with red icing and put on a number of chocolate spots.

In English we wrote a new adventure for 'The Very Greedy Bee' in the story we read last week. One day, the greedy Bee was fed up with seeing the same flowers in the same field so he decided to go on a new adventure.  He was desperate to visit other places so he made a list of the different places he wanted to explore. We wrote sentences such as “He got in a car and went to the shop," or "He got in a boat and went to the beach", etc, using graphemes that we have learned during the year.

In maths we recapped a lot of the skills we have learned this year, such as recognising numerals to 20, subitising amounts to 5, writing numerals to 10, saying number bonds to 5 and 10, knowing one more and one less than a number and finding odd and even numbers and sharing! The children are so good at all these skills and can show their understanding practically. Well done, everyone!

In Monster Phonics this week, we have been practising reading and writing ccvcc words with previously taught digraphs.  We also learned 3 new tricky words: their and outPlease continue to read with your child regularly.  It really makes a difference to their confidence and fluency. Please also continue to use spelling shed.  Again, this really helps the children to develop confidence and fluency with their segmenting and spelling skills.

Of course the highlights of our week were our day in Hedgehogs, where we had an amazing time, happily making hedgehogs and exploring the classroom activities and areas. Mr Armishaw also had a lovely time and we know is very much looking forward to having our lovely children in his class. The second highlight was our trip to Twycross Zoo!  A big thank you to our parent helpers! Please look out for photos and information about the day on our class page.

Have a lovely weekend!
