WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Week 6 - 13.10.25

We have had a very busy, but a fantastic week in the Hedgehogs class! See below to find out what we have been up to.

Maths

In our Maths learning this week, we started by looking at what a number line was. We looked at how we can use a number line to help solve problems. On Wednesday, we started our unit on addition and subtraction. We started by looking at what parts were and what wholes were. Parts are another way of saying groups. We found out that parts together make a whole. On Friday, we learned about how we can use the part-whole model to add amounts together. See if you can work out the parts and wholes of the problems below.

Here is an interactive part-whole model that you can try at home!

English

In our English learning this week, the children have been creating stories based off the story of Oi! Get off our train! The children imagined themselves in the story, and we innovated the train to be a different mode of transport. We also talked about what animal would come on their transport. The children all produced amazing stories and I am so proud of their writing. Their writing can be found in our writing gallery.

History

In our History learning, the children learned about homes in the past. First we looked on Google Maps to look at homes in our area. We looked at features of old and new homes. We then looked at the interior of homes and looked at how homes 100 years ago are different to today. Here are some pictures of some cartoon pictures of some homes. What features can you spot? Are there any other features that you know about homes in the past?

Computing

In our Computing work, the children continued their work on mouse skills by creating a picture from a story. The children listened to the story of The Three Little Pigs. From the story, the children created a scene from the story using Sketchpad. The children worked in pairs to create a background, use clipart and use a variety of different brush strokes. Here are some of their pictures below!

Phonics and Spelling

In our Phonics learning, we have been learning the split digraphs u-eu-e and we have recapped the digraph ar. You can use the Monster Phonics booklet to help recap the sounds taught from this week.

Spellings - please check in your child's spelling record book which spellings your child has been allocated.

Parents Evenings

It was lovely to see you all at Parents Evenings. If you do ever want another consultation to discuss your child's progress before the parents evenings in March, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me either after school, or at hedgehogs@repton-pri.derbyshire.sch.uk.

Christmas Production

I have sent out a letter confirming information regarding our KS1 Christmas Nativity. We are very excited to announce that KS1 will be performing "The Angel That Nearly Missed It All" on Thursday 11th December at the Repton 400 Hall. Please see more details in the letter below.

Have a lovely weekend, only one more week to go until our first break!
