WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Week 7 - 20.10.25

We have broken up for the half-term! The Hedgehogs have been incredible this half-term and I am so proud with how they have all settled. Thank you all for your continued support with your child's readings and spellings, it is greatly appreciated!

We had our Harvest service on Monday at St Wystan's Church which was lovely, and we have had a busy week full of new learning. Look below to find out what we have been doing this week.

Maths

In our Maths learning this week, we have been learning all about part-whole models and how we can use these models to create addition sentences. We learned that we can create two addition sentences from a part-whole model, as we can swap the parts round. If we swap the parts around, the whole still remains the same. This is the idea of commutativity. Here is a picture below to explain it.

From these part-whole models we can create the addition sentences;

4 + 3 = 7

3 + 4 = 7

We also learned that we can swap the number sentence around like this so the whole is at the front of the number sentence.

7 = 4 + 3

7 = 3 + 4

Can you create some addition sentences for these part-whole models below?

English

In our English learning, we have been using the book of Oi! Get Off Our Train, to learn about non-chronological reports. We started off by learning about what these are, and then we looked at an example of a seal fact file to identify the features. Here is the example we looked at. Can you identify the features below?

We also looked at question marks in our SPAG lesson. We looked at creating questions about one of the animals from the book. We looked at the crane from the book, and we thought about what questions we had about cranes. The children used question marks to demarcate their sentences. What questions can you come up with about the crane?

History

In our History learning, the children worked in pairs to decorate the inside of a house as if it was a house from a century ago! We also did an assessment to recap all our history knowledge so far!

Art

In our Art learning, the children applied all their skills that they have learned so far in our drawing and mark-making lessons to draw a picture using their observations. The children looked at photographs of Repton and drew some fantastic pictures by carefully observing the details within those photos. They used wax crayons and felt tips to bring their work to life.

Computing

The children finished off their unit on using computers by using all their mouse skills to create a portrait using Sketchpad. The children created a portrait of Mr Armishaw! They had to use different tools to create the different facial features. Here are some of their pictures below - Mr Armishaw took some of these pieces of work in good gest!

Phonics and Spellings

This week in Phonics we have recapped the ee digraph, and talked about the suffixes -ed, and -ing. The '-ed' suffix comes at the ends of most verbs in the past tense. The '-ing' suffix comes at the end of verbs in the present tense when someone is doing that verb. Please use the Monster Phonics Booklets to recap those words and sounds from this week.

Please check your child's Spelling Record Book to find out which words your child should be practising this week;

Have a lovely, safe half-term break. The children all thoroughly deserve it!

Well done Hedgehogs!

Mr Armishaw
