This week we asked the question ‘What can you do at the seaside?'.  We talked about our experiences at the seaside and what we did whilst there.  We looked at pictures of the seaside and made a list of all the things that we can do there, such as building sandcastles, having an ice-cream, exploring rock pools, walking on the pier, riding the funfair and eating fish and chips.  We also learned a little about seasides long ago and watched a Punch and Judy show!

We also talked about how to stay safe in the sun.  We learned that the sun is good for a lot of things but can also be bad for us if we get too much and don't protect ourselves. 

We made a pair of sunglasses from cardboard and coloured cellophane.  We wore them and noticed they made everything look coloured!

In English we created an information sheet all about things we could do at the seaside.  The children drew pictures and wrote sentences to go with them, for example, "You can eat a picnic on the sand," or, "You can catch a crab in a rock pool."

We loved watching the Year 6 leavers play this week - High School Musical!  Well done Seals - incredible performance!

In maths we made comparisons to find equal amounts. We used Cuisenaire rods to find equal lengths, such as 1 purple rod is equal to 3 yellow rods. We recorded our findings pictorially and used numerals too. We read ‘Ants Rule – The Long and Short of it’ and compared the lengths of the different minibeasts in the same way.

Our Monster Phonics this week, we have been practising reading and writing ccvcc words with previously taught digraphs.  We also learned 2 new tricky words: 'people' and 'could'. We also read the story Goldilocks and the Three Bears, to practise this skill.  We will collect the children's reading books in next week. You can still access Spelling Shed and Maths Shed over the holidays and of course, it's a great idea to recap those tricky words, ready to start in Hedgehogs in September.

I think our favourite part of this week was the Colour Run on Thursday afternoon. It was great fun and the children LOVED it. We hope you managed to wash the colours out ok!
