Our Learning
Well, another week has flown by in Seals class and it has involved portraits, adaptations and bhangra dancing!
English -
This week has brought to a close our writing unit based around feelings. On Monday, we finished publishing our children's books and were lucky enough to have the chance to read our stories to the Owls and Hedgehogs. The Seals LOVED reading their books to the younger children in school and it is safe to say that the younger children enjoyed hearing their stories too! On Tuesday and Wednesday, we completed persuasive writing tasks. We used a variety of persuasive devices (including exaggeration, emotive language, rhetorical questions, offers and more) to help us create poster and radio adverts for our children's stories. The children did a phenomenal job at 'selling' their books, using their skills of persuasion well!
We have now moved on to our next writing stimulus: The Tudors. Our first genre of writing within this unit is 'Biographies' so the children have spent today writing a 'mini biography' about a fellow Seal!

Maths –
Year 6 - We have continued our four operations work this week. This has involved completing short division with remainders, using factors for division and understanding the long division method to divide any number by a 2-digit number. Today, we were challenged with solving multi-step word problems relating to multiplication and division.
Year 5 - This week, Year 5 have been focusing on addition and subtraction. This has involved using mental methods for addition and subtraction, and using the formal written method to add two numbers up to 5-digits long.
History -
After analysing Tudor portraits last week, we spent time this week studying Hans Holbein - a German artist who painted several portraits throughout the Tudor period. We looked closely at his most famous pieces of artwork, including a portrait of King Henry VIII, and were mesmerised by the care and attention he put into his paintings, including the intricate details and shadowing involved to create realistic portraits. Once familiar with Holbein's skills and techniques, we had a go at sketching Tudor portraits ourselves, working hard to make them as detailed and realistic as possible!

Homework –
Children have been given Maths and English homework this week which relates to what we have been learning about in school. The tasks have been explained in class, but if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. Homework is due in school on Tuesday 14th October 2025.
