Our Learning
What a fantastic first week we have had in Seals class! It has involved bingo, doodles and job applications!
English –
We started our first English unit of work this week, which is all centred around our chosen book: The Grand Hotel of Feelings. We began the unit of work, reading and comprehending the story, understanding how the hotel acts as a metaphor for humans and their experiences with feelings! We then used our understanding to support us in creating a bank of vocabulary for one or more of the feelings in the book. Our word banks included synonyms of the feeling, associated colours, items, shapes, sounds, colours and much more. During our next lesson, we discovered how to 'show not tell' emotions in our writing, using facial expressions, body language and actions to portray a particular feeling and make our writing more exciting. Today, we have completed our first extended piece of work, writing a letter or diary entry from the perspective of one of the characters in the book. We will continue to develop our descriptive writing skills next week.
