Our Learning
Yet another week has passed us by and what a brilliant week it has been! It has involved research, rehearsals and royals!
English –
On Monday, we finished our 'mini-biographies', reviewing and refining our work to ensure it was the best it could be! After writing a biography about a friend of ours, it was time to plan and write about someone new! On Tuesday, the children were given time to research and plan a biography about a Tudor King, Queen or other important person from that era. They made careful notes, under their chosen subheadings, containing all the relevant information they would need to write about their chosen Tudor. For the rest of the week, the children have been writing and editing their biographies, thinking carefully about how to include features from our writing toolkit. We will add any final touches to our biographies on Monday!
Maths –
Year 6 have completed their four operations unit of work this week. This has involved identifying square and cube numbers, using the order of operations, learning how to solve calculations mentally, using rounding to estimate answers, and reasoning from known facts. Next week, we will consolidate our learning so far this term.
Year 5 this week have been comparing calculations, using inverse operations, and solving addition and subtraction word problems.
History -
After much anticipation, our history lessons this week have focused on King Henry VIII, who is arguably the most well-known Tudor monarch. We have spent several lessons learning about Henry VIII's family, reign, power, and his famous 6 wives! At the beginning of the week, we discussed Henry's time as ruler of England. We spoke about important decisions he made, such as splitting from the Catholic Church and creating the Church of England, and discussed his power and greed, before deciding whether he was a good or bad leader. Towards the end of the week, we turned our attention to Henry's family life. We learned about his numerous marriages and uncovered facts about each of his six wives, including their final fate. We also began to discuss Henry's children and their contributions throughout the Tudor period.
First Aid -
On Thursday, the Year 6's were fortunate enough to take part in a First Aid training session. The children were taught how to call 999, spot hazards, help someone who is unconscious, use the recovery position, perform CPR and help a person if they are choking. The children received an huge amount of information and now have a brilliant understanding of some very important life skills!

Homework –
Children have been given Maths and English homework this week which relates to what we have been learning about in school. The tasks have been explained in class, but if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. Homework is due in school on Tuesday 21st October.
