WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Week beginning 23.02.26

Our Learning

What a busy first week back we have had! It has involved social media chats, tourist guides, top-secret codes and another round of assessment papers!

English -

In English this week, we have started our new topic, focusing on social media! We started by looking at what social media is and what it means to us in our own lives. We then had a go at a silent debate as we tried to answer the question: Is social media helpful or harmful? The children all really enjoyed doing this. We used our findings to start writing a balanced argument to try and answer our big question.

Maths -

Year 5 have been revisiting decimals. They learnt about decimals up to 2 decimal places and made connections between decimals and fractions – focusing on tenths.

Year 6 have been finding fraction, decimal and percentage equivalents and ordering fractions, decimals and percentages.

Topic -

In Geography this week, we looked at how China’s population is distributed. We learnt that many of China’s population reside in the East, because of the more suitable terrain. Ask us what the land is like in the West of China!

We then started researching the city of Shanghai in preparation for writing our own tourist guides. We will continue these next week.

Homework –

Children have been given homework this week which relates to the learning we have been doing in school. The tasks have been explained in school, but if you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask me.

Homework is due on Tuesday 3rd March 2026.

As mentioned, the children have completed their third set of assessments this week and I am so proud of each and every one of them! Despite it being their first week back, they all tackled the assessments with the most incredibly positive attitude and mindset and, having marked most of the papers already, it is clear to see their hard work and efforts are paying off - Well done Seals! :)

Have a brilliant weekend,

Miss Bailey
