We have had a really busy half-term. Well done on all your hard work Hedgehogs! We have officially completed half a year! Find out what we have been doing below.
Maths
In our Maths learning, we have been learning about number bonds to 20. This is quite a tricky concept to understand as it builds on our knowledge of number bonds to 10. We used resources such as number beads, ten frames, and part-whole models to find number bonds to 20. We even used 'butterflies' to help find all the number bonds to 20, and found that there were 21 number bonds to 20! Can you tell your grown-up a number bond to 20?
Here are some games to help with understanding number bonds to 20.

Here are some photos of us finding number bonds systematically.
English
In our English learning, we started planning for a recount that we will write after half-term. We pretended that for our recount that we are part of the Maasai tribe when writing this recount and so we learned all about the daily lives and activities of the Maasai tribe. We then created a plan for our writing, which we will write up after half-term. Can you remember any jobs or activities that the Maasai people did? Which jobs did Maasai women do? Which jobs did Maasai men do?
Geography
In our Geography learning, we have been learning about human features. We started off by looking at a Kenyan village, town and city to identify what physical and human features we could see by looking at photographs. We then looked at maps to identify what human features we could find in our city of Derby. We looked at what symbols we could find on the map and we were Geography detectives in working out what they were. Look at the maps below. Can you look at the symbols on the map and tell your grown-up what human feature that could be?
Phonics
In our Phonics we have been recapping the ear trigraph. We have also learned that this trigraph can also make the /air/ phoneme as well. Please use the time to read sheets to practise these words.
Spellings
I have not provided any spellings for the half-term. Instead, please use this time to read with your child and relax over the half-term. I will set some optional activities on Spelling Shed and Maths Shed to complete.
Art
In our Art, we have finished off our unit on 'Painting' and we have created our own Clarice Cliff style plates. Clarice Cliff used concentric circles to decorate her ceramics. We used a variety of primary and secondary colours to decorate our plates. We then used black paint and a straw to blow the paint to make a tree on our plate. Here are some photos of us in action making our trees.
You should have all hopefully received your parents evening confirmation slip. If you have any questions about your time, please email me at hedgehogs@repton-pri.derbyshire.sch.uk.
Have a lovely half-term!
