ReptonPrimary School

WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Week Commencing 24.2.25

I hope you all had a lovely break! The children have come back with such a fantastic attitude and they have been excited for their learning this week. Look below to find out what we have been doing.

Maths

In our Maths learning, we have been learning all about doubles. We watched a video to understand all about doubles. Here if it is if you want to watch it at home! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=At0quRa90rs. We used ladybirds to find doubles of numbers up to 12!

We then did a lesson on near doubles. This is where we can use doubles facts to find answers to sums where which are close to a double. For example 5 + 6 is similar to 5 + 5 = 10, but we need an extra one. Here are some pictures of us using cubes to find near doubles.

English

In our English learning, we have been finishing off our work on recount writing. The children did a Big Write on writing a recount as if they were a Maasai child in Kenya. The children used time conjunctions, conjunctions, and wrote using the past tense to make their writing come to life. The children did a fantastic job with their pieces of writing! Can you write a recount about your day using time conjunctions, conjunctions and write using the past tense?

Geography

In our Geography work this week, the children worked on creating sketch maps of our local area. We looked at a map of Repton and thought about what human features and physical features we should include in our map. The children worked together in pairs to draw their sketch maps.

On Thursday, we then looked at the city of Nairobi in Kenya. We looked at how cities can have good parts and bad parts. We looked at some features of Nairobi that were good and bad, particularly looking at what slums are in Kenya. Have a look at the photos below, can you tell your grown-ups some good parts about Nairobi and some bad parts about Nairobi?

Computing - Using bee-bots and virtual bee-bots.

Art - Making tube tower sculptures out of paper!

Phonics and Spellings

In our Phonics this week, we have been learning the 'are' spelling that makes the /air/ sound. We also learned that 'y' at the end of words normally make the /ee/ sound. We also learned that the digraph ph, can make the /f/ sound. Please use the time to read Monster Phonics booklets to consolidate any sounds that your child may struggle with.

Just a reminder that there is a Phonics Screening Check meeting straight after school on Tuesday 4th March if you are able to come. It will roughly last 20-30 minutes. Mrs Wain will be there to provide activities for your child during this time.

Have a lovely weekend!
