WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

07.11.25

We have reached the end of our first week back after half term and wow the children have worked their socks off this week! Read on to find out what we’ve been up to!

In English, we’ve started exploring poetry connected to the Gunpowder Plot and Guy Fawkes. We’ve read and analysed a variety of poems linked to this theme, focusing on figurative language and the different ways each poem is structured. Inspired by these, we created our own versions throughout the week. On Friday, the children selected their favourite poem to perform in front of the class — and what fantastic performances they gave! Well done, Foxes!

In Maths, Year 5 have been developing their understanding of factors, common factors, and prime numbers. They've been learning to distinguish between factors and multiples, and exploring how to identify prime numbers based on their properties — including clues from the digits they end with. Meanwhile, Year 6 have been deepening their knowledge of equivalent fractions. They've practised simplifying fractions and have been working on comparing and ordering them with increasing confidence.

In History, we’ve taken a deep dive into the life of Queen Elizabeth I. The Foxes carried out research into her remarkable achievements as a trailblazing woman of her time, as well as the challenging decisions she faced during her reign. The children then chose how to present their findings — either as a double-page spread, a quiz, or a short biography. Their creativity really shone through, and it was fantastic to see the range of imaginative ways they shared what they had learned about this fascinating historical figure.

Year 6 Fire Safety-

Year 6 had a fantastic opportunity this week when a member of the Fire and Rescue Service visited our school on Friday. It was an engaging and informative session where the children learned how fires start, ways to prevent them, how to identify fire hazards at home, and the importance of regularly checking smoke alarms. They also discovered how to make an emergency call, what to do in a fire situation, and the serious consequences of hoax calls — among many other important safety tips. The visit sparked lots of thoughtful questions and gave the children valuable knowledge about fire safety and the vital role of the fire brigade.

Children have been given Maths and English homework this week which relates to what we have been learning about in school. The tasks have been explained in class, but if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. Homework is due in school on Tuesday 11th November 2025.
