WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Week beginning 10.03.25

Our Learning

We have had another fantastic week in Seals class. It has involved games, money, changes and adaptation!

English -

On Monday, the children presented their non-chronological reports as a colourful and creative double-page spread. Here are a few examples:

On Tuesday, we introduced the video 'Broken', which is our next writing stimulus. Our learning so far has been centred around character description. This has involved describing a character's appearance, personality and emotions, writing poems to show impressions of a character and using speech to convey character. Today, we watched the end of the 'Broken' video and wrote a paragraph retelling one part of the story. This paragraph aimed to include description (for settings and characters), speech (to convey character) and a range of devices to build suspense.

Maths -

This week saw the beginning of our next unit of work - Statistics. So far, this has involved using and interpreting line graphs, understanding dual bar charts, and reading and interpreting pie charts. We will continue this topic next week.

Science Week -

We have had so much fun celebrating Science Week in school this week! It has involved learning about many famous scientists and completing a huge range of activities surrounding this year's British Science Week theme: Change and adapt. In our first lesson this week, we were tasked with creating a musical instrument. Using glass jars, water and a range of beaters, we explored how we can create sounds with varying pitch and volume. Our second lesson focused on animal adaptations, particularly the non-verbal communications and signals a squid demonstrates. After learning about the squid, we created a scratch game to showcase the squid's colour changing survival skills! On Wednesday, the whole school participated in a carousel of science activities. Across years 4,5&6, this included reusing materials, writing secret messages and inventing inclusive playground games!

Homework -

Children have been given a sheet of Maths and English homework to take home this week, which relates to the learning we have been doing in school. We also ask that they practise their spellings, times tables and read at home as much as possible alongside this.
