Our Learning
We have had yet another fabulous week in Seals class. It has involved problems, perimeter and potatoes!
English -
This week, the children have planned and written non-chronological reports about Canada. They have worked incredibly hard writing and editing their reports and I look forward to seeing how they present their work as a double-page spread on Monday!
World Book Day -
On World Book Day, we completed a range of activities including the much anticipated book character potatoes! Our English work on this day was based around Tom Fletcher's book, 'The Creakers'. After reading the blurb, we imagined what 'The Creakers' could be and described them using figurative language and expanded noun phrases. Following this, we created a new book cover based on our version of the book. Finally, the children were tasked with writing either a newspaper report, persuasive letter or short suspense story about their 'Creakers' and the outcomes were fantastic!
Maths -
We have continued our area and perimeter unit of work this week which has involved finding the area and perimeter of rectilinear shapes, finding the area of any triangle and finding the area of a parallelogram.
Geography -
We have continued learning about the human geography of Canada this week. On Monday, we considered the impacts of climate change on Canada. We thought about how rising temperatures are affecting the environments, cities and people of Canada and discussed what strategies the Canadian government are putting in place to protect their country. Our main task in this lesson was to produce a poem/poster which encourages people to think carefully about climate change and prevent it having the impact it is having on countries such as Canada! In our second lesson this week, we wrote debate texts, considering whether Canada has what it takes to become a 'global superpower'.
Homework -
Children have been given a sheet of Maths and English homework to take home this week, which relates to the learning we have been doing in school. We also ask that they practise their spellings, times tables and read at home as much as possible alongside this.
