Our Learning
We have had another brilliant week in Seals class. It has involved Canada Day, Red Nose Day and a local walk!
English -
This week, we have been developing our understanding of dialogue. We learned how dialogue is used to enhance a story, focusing particularly on its ability to advance the action. During the first half of the week, we identified dialogue in our model text and created a new ending to our stimulus, 'Broken', using dialogue to help tell our version of the story. Towards the end of the week, the children have been busy planning a story of their own, thinking carefully about creating interesting characters and a storyline which lends itself well to dialogue.
Maths -
In Maths this week, we have covered various aspects of our statistics unit including reading and interpreting pie charts with percentages, drawing simple pie charts, drawing pie charts using protractors, and calculating the mean. We will begin our geometry unit next week, focusing on angles.
Geography -
In Geography this week, we had our very own 'Canada Day'! This involved sharing fun facts we had researched, learning about the history of Canada, and learning about various aspects of Canada's culture and society including sports, music, art, diversity in the country, and more. We also drew a Canadian Beaver (Canada's national animal) and ate a few spoonfuls of Canadian maple syrup - Yum! I hope the Seals enjoyed this day! :)
Homework -
Children have been given their final round of practise papers this week, therefore there is no official Maths and English homework set as we would like them to spend time reviewing their papers. We also ask that they practise their spellings, times tables and read at home as much as possible alongside this.
