WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

10.10.2025

A brilliant week in history this week with our trip to Tamworth Castle and learning about Saxon settlements in our topic lesson. On Wednesday, we had a brilliant time learning about Magnificent Mercia, Anglo-Saxon and Viking soldiers and the Staffordshire hoard. The Otters’ behaviour was impeccable and I was very proud of them! Please see ‘trips and visits’ on our class page for some pictures.

In Maths this week, we have continued with using the column method to add. We have looked at exchanging and the importance of keeping all of the digits in line. We have really encouraged the children not to rush and to make sure that they show their working out. On Thursday, we moved on to subtraction with no exchanging and on Friday, we looked at subtracting where there is one exchange.

In English, we have started a new unit. We watched the clip "Dragon Slayer" and we generated adjectives, adverbs and verbs that were based on the clip. We then used a thesaurus to help us up-level our vocabulary. We then started to think about non-chronological reports to provide information about dragons. We planned our writing and there were so many creative ideas. We then started to write the introduction, thinking really carefully about our punctuation and writing in a formal tone.

We have also thought our identity in PSHE and how to stay savvy online with advertisements and in-app purchases which can often get us spending money without realising!

In Science, we have learnt about the digestive system. We have identified and named parts of the digestive system. We have also thought about the journey that our food goes on when we eat.
