We have had another great week in Foxes class and I can’t believe that we only have two weeks left before the end of half term!
In English this week, we completed our unit all about feelings. The children did their final touches to their children’s books and next week we will be sharing them with some of the younger children in the school! We also looked at using persuasive devices to create a poster to ‘sell’ our books, including: rhetorical questions, emotive language and the power of three! We then created radio advertisements to further ‘sell’ our books, including imperative verbs, offers and exaggeration! The children did very well with these and were very persuasive!
We then started our new English unit focusing on the Tudors! We are going to be writing biographies and started off by writing mini biographies all about a friend from our class! The children had to complete mini interviews to ensure they had enough information and ask follow up questions too!
In Maths this week, the Year 5s have been focusing on addition and subtraction. This has involved using mental methods for addition and subtraction, and using the formal written method to add two numbers up to 5-digits long. The Year 6s have continued their four operations work this week. This has involved completing short division with remainders, using factors for division and understanding the long division method to divide any number by a 2-digit number. Today, they were challenged with solving multi-step word problems relating to multiplication and division.
In History, the children have been learning about the artwork of Hans Holbein - a German artist who painted several portraits throughout the Tudor period and was known as ‘The Tudor Photographer’ because of his attention to detail. The children were amazed at how Hans Holbein created the difference techniques, using only paint and a paint brush! Velvet, fur and feathers were all so finely detailed. Once familiar with Holbein's skills and techniques, we had a go at sketching Tudor portraits ourselves, working hard to make them as detailed and realistic as possible! The children did a great job!
PE this week involved Bangra dancing! The children enjoyed watching some Bangra dancing online before having a go at some of the dance moves themselves!
