WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

14.11.25

This week has absolutely flown by in Foxes class! Read on to find out more about our week!

This week is Anti-bullying week, we commemorated this by wearing odd socks to school on Monday. In PSHE we focused on kindness and this year’s theme: Power for Good.

Tuesday was Remembrance Day; we held our two-minute silence in the hall where we remembered those who sacrificed their lives for our country.

Friday was Children in Need – thank you to all of you who donated money. The children enjoyed wearing their pyjamas and non-school uniform to school!

This week in English, we’ve been diving into The Terrible Tudors from the Horrible Histories series. Using Chapter 1, ‘Terrible Tudor Life – and Death!’ as our inspiration, our focus has been on the fascinating (and sometimes frightening!) world of Tudor illnesses and cures. We explored what life was like during the Tudor era, how health was affected, and uncovered the strange and surprising methods used by wise women and doctors to diagnose and treat their patients. Armed with this knowledge and our persuasive writing skills, the children’s first challenge was to create an advert promoting a Tudor cure. They invented some wonderfully wacky remedies for various ailments and used persuasive techniques to convince an audience to buy them! Later in the week, we turned our attention to producing a Tudor Health Guide. This guide offered advice on common illnesses and treatments, along with handy tips for maintaining a lifestyle that was as healthy and hygienic as possible (by Tudor standards, at least!).

In Maths Year 5 have begun looking at multiplying by 10, 100 and 1000 and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000. Year 6 have carried on with their unit on fractions. This week has involved them adding and subtracting fractions, adding and subtracting mixed numbers and developing their problem-solving skills involving fractions.

In History this week, we explored Tudor fashion! We compared the clothing of rich and poor Tudors, discovered the materials they used, and learned about the styles that were popular at the time. After our discussions, we designed our very own Tudor outfits. Can you remember which shapes were considered fashionable for men and women during this period? Our second task was to plan a Tudor banquet! Do you know which piece of cutlery was reserved only for the monarch? And which unusual animal might have appeared on a Tudor banquet table?

Homework –

Children have been given a creative piece of homework this week which is to design a poster for anti-bullying week. The task has been explained in class but if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. The best posters will be displayed around school and the classroom!

Homework is due in school on Tuesday 18th November.
