WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

21.11.25

I can’t believe we are almost half way through this half term! These weeks are just flying by! Over the past few weeks, the Foxes have been working hard to improve their handwriting; this is an ongoing target for a lot of us and I am really impressed with the progress the children have made so far! They still have a way to go so please keep practising your letter formation and joins at home! ðŸ˜Š

In English, we’ve continued to focus our learning around the book ‘The Terrible Tudors’. At the start of the week, the children were challenged to write a persuasive, one-sided argument to convince a judge that a woman was innocent of witchcraft. They carefully examined the evidence and developed multiple reasons to prove her innocence. Later in the week, the children wrote a fictional recount, imagining themselves as guests at one of Henry VIII’s extravagant royal banquets. This task allowed them to showcase their descriptive writing skills and demonstrate their knowledge of Tudor cuisine. At the end of the week, after exploring various Tudor games and sports, the children created clear and engaging sets of instructions. They paid close attention to layout and presentation, ensuring their instructional texts were suited to their purpose and audience.

In Maths this week, the Year 6s have continued their work on fractions. They’ve tackled multiplying fractions by integers, multiplying fractions by fractions, dividing fractions by integers, and solving a range of mixed fraction problems. The Year 5s have started their fractions unit this week. Their focus has been on identifying unit and non-unit fractions and exploring equivalent fractions.

In History this week, we learned all about the life of the famous English sea captain, explorer, and privateer Sir Francis Drake who was alive during the Tudor period. He is best known for being the first Englishman to circumnavigate the globe between 1577 and 1580, an achievement that brought him great fame and wealth. Drake played a key role in defending England against the Spanish Armada in 1588 and was celebrated as a national hero. However, he was also controversial, as his voyages often involved raiding Spanish ships and colonies, making him both admired and feared across Europe. We will be learning more about the Spanish Armada next week!

Homework –

Children have been given a piece of Maths and English homework this week which relates to the learning we have been doing in school. The task has been explained in class, but if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
