This week in Maths, we have continued with our learning on place value. We looked at Roman Numerals which we found a little tricky so it is something that we will keep coming back to. We have been rounding to 10 and rounding to 100. We learnt the rhyme 5 and above give it a shove, 4 and below, get down low to help us think about if we need to round up or down. We found using number lines really useful and just need to think which multiple of 10 or 100 is either side of the given number.
In English, we have been working on fronted adverbials and the correct punctuation - including commas after fronted adverbials. This is another thing that we need to keep working on as to be expected Year 4 writers, we need to be consistently including them in our writing with the correct punctuation. We have considered the structure of Daisy's Dragons and we have used this structure to help us plan our own stories. We will be writing these next week. Hopefully with lots of amazing fronted adverbials!
This week in topic we have focused on childhood and the difference between life for girls and boys. On Monday we had lots of fun playing 9 Men’s Morris and on Wednesday we used a Venn Diagram and secondary historical sources to compare.
We also learned about how to check if something is genuine/accurate on the internet and we started our school unit in French with Mrs Jones.
In Science, we have set up an investigation. We are looking at the affects that foods and drinks can have on our teeth. We have put eggs in 4 different liquids (water, vinegar, cola and orange juice). We will observe the changes to the eggs over the next week.
With today being European Languages Day, we have also looked at some different ways to say hello in different European languages. We have worked together to create a piece of collaborative colouring to mark the occasion.
