We have had a great first week back. It has been so lovely to hear what you have been up to over the half term.
In Maths, we have completed our learning on fractions and we have started our new unit, which is decimals. Some children looked quite uneasy about decimals but I have told them that they have done lots of the learning through fractions anyway and we will take it one step at a time. I am hoping that they are feeling a bit better about decimals now as I was really impressed with the lesson that we did on Thursday where we looked at writing tenths out as both fractions and decimals. We spent a lot of time looking at the place value grid. We talked about how the decimal point never moves and it is always between the ones column and the tenths column. We talked about how the rules in every single column are exactly the same and we talked about how careful we have to be not to get mixed up with tens and tenths!
In English, we have been preparing to write our persuasive letters of complaints. We have been looking at features of formal letters, planning out our ideas and we have also written an introduction for our own letters.
In topic, we have done a bit of finishing off from last term. Mrs Hucker will take over topic from next week and at the end of the week we will now have RE and Art. In art on Friday, we have looked at drawing with tone to create a 3D effect.
Homework for this week is all linked to writing tenths as both decimals and fractions.
