WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

27.06.2025

This week in English, we have  started a new unit which is based on the story "The Fox Who Stole the Moon". We have written descriptive sentences about the Moon and we have looked at including relative clauses, conjunctions and adverbials in our writing. On Friday, we got into roles as witnesses of the crime and we have written some super witness statements!

In Maths in Year 5, we have started our new unit on decimals. We have added and subtracted decimals within 1. We have looked at complements to 1 and we have started to add and subtract decimals across 1. We have been applying our knowledge of number bonds and we have thought carefully about mental strategies that we can use in Maths to help make our working out more efficient. In Year 4, we have been working on time. We have been looking at and understanding days, months, years and weeks.

In Computing this week we have started our unit on the Mars Rover. We used maths to calculate the distance to Mars in statues, trees, sofas and football pitches to really understand how far away it would have travelled. In RE, the children looked at some statements from the bible and thought how these teachings would inspire Christians to live better lives. In Music the children have carried on their song ‘dancing in the streets’ with Mrs Jones. In Art we have been sketching what we think will be in the future; we will collate these ideas for our final space themed artwork in the next couple of weeks.

We have now completed our learning in Science on Earth and Space and we have made a start on our DT projects. We looked at some example models, thought about what we liked and we have started to come up with our own designs.

We have got a busy week next week with the Trumpet concert for the Year 5s on Tuesday. We are very much looking forward to sharing with you our progress from this year! On Wednesday we have got class swap day across school and we will be spending the day in our new classes.

Have a lovely weekend and we look forward to welcoming the Year 4 children back later for their camp out on the field!
