I can’t believe how quickly this term has gone! It seems to have flown by and we only have one week left until the Easter break! As always, the Foxes have been working hard this week!
In English, we finished off our unit about ‘The Great Kapok Tree’ by writing a persuasive letter to a logging company persuading them to stop cutting down trees in the Amazon Rainforest, we used lots of facts to support our points of view, including: the impact on global warming and climate change; the impact on animal habitats and lives; the impact on local tribes and the effect soil erosion has on tree and vegetation regrowth. We also ensured that we used a range of persuasive features in our letters. The children all did a brilliant job and their final letters look great on our writing wall in the classroom!
In Maths, the Year 4s have continued learning about fractions; this week we have been learning how to add fractions with the same denominator and how to add mixed numbers and fractions. The children showed great understanding of this concept this week! The Year 5s have finished off their decimals and percentages unit by looking at equivalent fractions, decimals and percentages. After their end of unit assessment, they moved onto perimeter and area by finding the area of rectangles and rectilinear shapes.
In Topic, we loved learning about Edson Arantes do Nascimento aka Pele! We then created biographies about him. We also looked at how the Brazilian flag has changed over the years. We are almost finished with our 'Brazil' topic! The children have really enjoyed learning about this fascinating country! Next term we will be learning about ‘Forces’ in our Science unit.
