WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Maths

In Maths this week we have been learning how to count in 2s, 5s and 10s. Some of the children were already really secure with this and started to apply their knowledge to multiplication! Very impressive. We haven't yet covered multiplication and division so it's not an issue if there are any children who aren't quite at this stage yet. We counted in multiples of 10, but we also looked at counting forwards/backwards in tens when starting from any given number. The children learned that the ones in the number won't change, but then tens will get bigger/smaller depending on if we're counting forwards or backwards. Some children found this easier to see when working practically with the tens and ones, physically adding a ten/taking a ten away. Other children were working quite abstractly, counting forwards/backwards in tens from any given number mentally, without any concrete of visual support. Have a go at the examples below...

English

We have been continuing to work towards our non-chronological reports on Queen Victoria this week. We haven't started the final piece of writing, but we have continued gathering research and have also learned a new writing skill - one which the children will be expected to have a go at including in their reports. This skill is: using commas in a sentence to separate items in a list. The children grasped this really well on the whole, and I'm looking forward to seeing them attempt to use this new way of punctuating sentences in the up-coming weeks!

The children loved watching the video below, which was used to introduce the concept of using commas in a list earlier on in the week. Feel free to follow the link and watch it with them! There are activities on the website too, which will allow your child to gain extra practice!

PSHE

In PSHE, we recapped the meaning of the word 'unique' and looked carefully at ourselves to help us consider how we look unique. We also talking about our personality differences, hobbies and interests.

History

We had lots of fun learning about the different jobs that Victorian children would've had! Take a look at use role-playing them in oue of our history lesson this week!
