What a busy second week we have had in the Puffins classroom. It has involved The Terrible Tudors, banquets and costume design. Read on to find out more…
In English we have begun looking at a new stimulus, ‘The Terrible Tudors’. We used this as starter for us to role play what a conversation between a Tudor physician and a patient would like and begin discussing the very strange remedies and medical ideas that Tudors had. Can you share any of the Tudor cures that we have learnt about with your grown up? We created adverts for Tudor medicine, thinking about the ingredients they would have contained and what symptoms these illnesses might have had. We have ended the week by creating our own Tudor health guides.
In Maths Year 5 have begun looking at multiplying by 10, 100 and 1000 and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000. Can you explain this True or False question to your grown up?
Year 6 have carried on with their unit on fractions. This week has involved them adding and subtracting fractions, adding and subtracting mixed numbers and developing our problem-solving skills involving fractions. Can you explain this True or False question to your grown-up?
In Topic this week, we have learnt about the fashion of the Tudor times. We talked about the difference between the clothes of rich and poor Tudors, what materials their clothes were made out of and what were the fashions of the time. We then created our own Tudor outfits. Can you remember what shapes were fashionable for men and women in the Tudor times?
We finished off the week by planning a Tudor banquet. What piece of cutlery was only used by the monarch? And what was a rather unusual animal that used to make appearances on a Tudor banquet table?
We are on week 9 of the spellings for both Year 5 and Year 6. The list can be found in the spelling area of the class page.
I hope you have a lovely restful weekend.
Stay safe
