WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

W/c 17th November 2025

It has been yet another busy week in Puffins class. It has involved Terrible Tudor crime and punishment, macro photography and fractions! Read on to find out more…

In English the Puffins have continued to centre our work around the book, 'The Terrible Tudors', which this week has involved writing about banquets, witchcraft and sport! At the beginning of the week, the children were tasked with writing a one-sided argument to persuade a judge that a women was not guilty of being a witch. They had to consider the evidence provided and think of multiple reasons to prove that she is, in fact, innocent! Later in the week, the children wrote a fictional recount, imagining they had been invited to one of Henry VIII's lavish, royal banquets. The task was a great opportunity for the children to showcase their impressive descriptive writing skills and Tudor food knowledge! Today, after learning about various Tudor sports/games, the children created a set of engaging instructions. They thought carefully about the layout and presentation of their instructional texts, ensuring they meet the intended purpose and audience.

In Maths Year 6 have continued their fractions work this week. This has involved multiplying fractions by integers, multiplying fractions by fractions, dividing fractions by integers, and solving mixed problems using fractions. There have been multiple rules to digest in Maths this week for the Year 6's but they have all grasped them brilliantly!

Year 5 have begun their fractions unit of work this week. This has involved identifying unit and non-unit fractions, and finding equivalent fractions.

History involved the events of the Spanish Armada. At the beginning of the week, we uncovered facts about Sir Francis Drake. We looked at his childhood, early voyages and more, and found out why he is such a significant and famous Tudor individual. Towards the end of the week, we discovered what the Spanish Armada was, why the conflict took place, and who the key players involved in the event were. After discussing the reasons behind the attack, the children were tasked with ordering the causes from the least to the most important, giving reasons and for their choices.

Homework –

Children have been given a piece of Maths and English homework this week which relates to the learning we have been doing in school. The task has been explained in class, but if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. Children are asked to read at home and practise their spellings/times tables alongside this.
