We have had another brilliant week in Puffins. It has involved illustrating and story-telling, fossil evolution, rose making and European Day of Languages. Read on to find out more…
In English, the Puffins have written and created some wonderful stories for 3–7 year olds. These included strawberries finding their match with whipped cream, a Siamese cat going on an adventure, an animal searching for corn and a penguin escaping from the zoo. The children also created some beautiful illustrations for these books. Some budding Julia Donaldson’s in our midst!
In Maths Year have continued learning about place value. This involved rounding to the nearest 10, 100 and 1,000 and comparing and ordering numbers to 1,000,000. Can you explain this True or False to your grown up?
Year 6 have begun their work on the 4 operations which involved them thinking about the rules of divisibility, identifying common factors and common multiples and identifying prime numbers to 100. Can you explain this True or False question to your grown up?
Our Science unit begin this week with our Evolution and Inheritance topic. We learnt about the fossil record and how this has helped us learn about the evolution of certain organisms and animals. We also learnt about the importance of Mary Anning and what she did for the world of palaeontology.
Our History lessons involved us learning about the significance of the Tudor Rose and why it helped to bring together the houses of York and Lancaster. Having learnt about the importance of this symbol the Puffins then made their own Tudor roses.
Today marks European Day of Languages. We learnt about the importance of this day in celebrating and embracing different languages and why learning new languages can help us. We also created our own symbols for European Day of Languages.
