This week has flown by. See what we have been up to...
Maths
In maths this week we have been looking at 2D shapes and seeing if we can name them. We have looked at different quadrilaterals, pentagons and hexagons. We discussed that not all of these shapes look the same; we can have regular and irregular shapes. We have done lots of shape sorting activities and even had a go at drawing our own shapes. We used our knowledge from last week to describe the different angles we could see: right, acute or obtuse.
English
Our new English topic is based on the book 'The Day the Crayons Quit.' We read the story together and discussed how each crayon would be feeling. We looked at expanding our vocabulary to describe emotions (instead of using happy and sad) and came up with words such as overworked, jealous, paranoid and exhausted. As we are going to be writing to inform, we looked at the different features you would find in a persuasive letter and found examples from a letter the Big, Bad Wolf wrote about little girls trashing the woods. Towards the end of the week, we have been developing our writing through the use of rhetorical questions, imperative verbs and suffixes.
DT
As the date is drawing nearer to making our bee hotels, in their groups the children drew their plans for their hotels and discussed what materials they will be using. We looked at the different steps that we will be taking to create our bee hotels and how they can work in teams to achieve their design brief. Next week...onto the crafting!
