Happy Friday!
In maths, we started the week by finishing our lessons on 'mass'. We learnt about 'kilograms'. Can you tell someone at home how many grams are in 1kg? We then looked at different objects and decided if we would measure them in 'grams' or 'kilograms'. After that, we used our knowledge to solve problems using our four operations (addition, subtraction, division and multiplication). Show someone what you can do:
Later in the week, we started our lessons on capacity and volume. Can you tell someone at home what these words mean? We ended the week by measuring millilitres!
In English, we learnt how to use speech within our writing. A lot of the children are becoming very ambitious with their writing and have asked to include it. Therefore, we had a lesson on how to begin to use it correctly within our writing. Can you show someone at home how we can include speech within our writing? Remember to use the helpful hints below...
We then applied this to our writing this week. We wrote a section of our own story, inspired by the Rainbow Fish. In our stories, lots of sea creatures wanted something special that the crab had collected, but the crab did not want to share. The children chose the items and sea creatures and wrote a fantastic section of a story including adjectives, expanded noun phrases, adverbs and speech! The children wrote some fantastic stories - I was so impressed! Tell someone at home about your story.
In topic, we have been learning about Aboriginal Dreaming. Dreamtime is the foundation of Aboriginal religion and culture. It dates back 65,000 years. It is the story of events that have happened, how the universe came to be, how human beings were created and how their Creator intended for humans to function within the world as they knew it. We learnt three dreamtime stories: Taddalick the frog, the Rainbow Serpent and How Birds Got Their Colours. Can you tell someone at home about these stories? What happened? What can we learn from them? We used these stories as our inspiration for our dot painting.
Please note, that the spelling test will take place on Thursday next week, not Friday.
