Although this week has been filled with assessments the Puffins have worked incredibly hard and deserve a huge pat on the back for their efforts. The afternoons have involved us learning about characteristics passed onto offspring through genes, who was in Henry VIII’s family tree and why portraits by Hans Holbein were not always was they seemed. Read on to find out more…
Due to the assessments, Year 5 have learnt about rounding to 100,000. We also had a lesson focused on revising our arithmetic skills. Can you explain this True or False question to your grown-up?
Year 6 have completed a lesson on long multiplication involving 4-digit by 2-digit numbers. They have also looked at alternative methods for multiplication. Can you explain this True or False question to your grown-up?
In English, the Puffins finished their stories for 3-7 year olds. They have all produced a beautiful illustrated book that would be fit to be published. Can you spot your book in the covers below? If it’s not there this week, it will be on next week’s class update.
Science involved us learning about how characteristics are passed onto offspring through the parent’s genes and DNA. To understand this in more detail the Puffins imagined what the offspring of a Little Miss and Mr Man would look like. What characteristics would they take from each of their parents and what would they end up looking like? Can you describe your Little Miss or Mr Man to your grown up?
In History we have carried on with our topic of the Tudors by firstly learning about the family tree of Henry VII. We thought about how Henry VIII made the Tudor family tree slightly more confusing due to his large number of wives! Our second topic lesson involved us analysing Historical portraits from the Tudor times. We thought about the clues in the portraits that told us about the subject of the painting. As well as why portraits may not have been always the most reliable way for us to know what people look like.

As I mentioned earlier the children have completed their first set of assessments for the year. They all worked incredibly hard on them and should be incredibly proud of themselves. They should not be stressed or worried about their results at all and anything that we can support them with moving forward will be shared with you in parent’s evening as well as with the children.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Stay safe
