WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

W/c 4th November 2025

Welcome to Autumn 2 ! I can’t believe we are already in November, this year is going very quickly. This week has consisted of Poetry focused on the gunpowder plot, Queen Elizabeth I and more reading of our whole class book. Read on to find out more..

In English we have begun focusing on poetry, linked to the Gunpowder plot and Guy Fawkes. We have read and analysed a number of different poems all linked to this topic.  We have thought about the figurative language in them and the different ways they are set out. We have then created our own versions of each of them. Well done Puffins.

In Maths, Year 5 have been working on understanding factors, common factors and prime numbers. The children have been understanding the difference between a factor and a multiple, as well as how we can work out if a number is a prime number depending on what it ends with. Can you explain this True or False question to your grown up?

Year 6 have been learning more about equivalent fractions and how to simplify them, as well as comparing and ordering fractions. Can you explain this True or False question to your grown up?

In History, we have learnt in detail about Queen Elizabeth I. The Puffins researched her life, the incredible things that she did as a woman far ahead of her time, as well as some of the very difficult decisions that she had to make. They then made the choice of how to present their information, either as a double page spread, a quiz or a small biography. The children presented their information in very imaginative ways and it was very impressive to see all of the things they had learnt about this fascinating woman.

We have continued to read our class shared reading book ‘The Light Jar’. This week we thought about the type of person Gary is, how he could make the air prickly around him and why Grandma might have been cross.  We also began to discuss what Sam actually is and what is going to happen next. Can you explain what has happened in this story so far to your grown up?
