We have had a lovely first week back in the Owls class! Look below to find out what we have done this week, including some activities that you can do if your child needs a rest from creating snow angels and snow men!
Maths
In our Maths learning, we have started our unit on Multiplication and Division. We have been consolidating the learning that we did in Year 1 by recognising and making equal groups. We have been adding equal groups together using repeated addition and on Thursday we just started to use the multiplication symbol 'x' to represent repeated addition!

Here are some games you can do at home;
English

In our English learning, we have started to look at the story of The Koala Who Could. It is a funny rhyming story about dealing with change and overcoming worries. You are welcome to listen to the audio of the book here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wmgxgat6HFI
We have been sequencing and learning the story ready to write a diary entry next week. Could you write some sentences about the pictures from the book below? Maybe include some Onomatopoeia which we covered last term, or try to use some exclamation marks. If you write any sentences, feel free to bring them on Monday so we can share them in class!

I have also put a link to Draw with Rob - Koala, if you need a break from snow activities and writing! -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cImUAS94Hdk
Geography
This week, we have started our new geography topic: Astonishing Australia! This term, we will explore Australia, its landmarks, weather, history and culture. We have had a brilliant first few lessons. We started to think about what we wanted to find out about Australia. We then recapped our learning from Year 1 to find out about the United Kingdom, so we can then explore the country of Australia. Tell someone at home how many countries are in the United Kingdom. Can you remember what they are (use our rhyme about 'donkey tails' to remind you!)? We then briefly looked at the capital cities of each country and some of its physical and human features.
You can use this song from Year 1 to help recap the countries that make up the United Kingdom - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvDIZoQLgIE
Art
In our Art learning, we have been learning how to create and make up our own maps. Can you create a birds-eye view map of your local area?
Phonics and Spellings
In our Phonics learning this week, we have been learning how to blend and read words with 'ti' making the 'sh' sound such as 'collection' and 'station'. On Wednesday and Thursday, we also looked at how the 'i' can be used on its own to make the /igh/ sound such as 'mind' and 'wild'. I have attached a PowerPoint below if you wish to go through some of the words that we have read this week;
I have also attached some optional words to go through, and sheets to practise applying the 'ti' grapheme.
Normally we allocate spellings on a Friday. I have attached them below, and they will be made available on Spelling Shed shortly.

More importantly, make sure to have a lovely time in the snow today! It is a rare opportunity we get snow so make the most of this. I can't wait to hear all about your activities when we return on Monday.
Have a safe weekend!
