WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Week 1

Welcome back!

This week we have learned about what changes happen in Autumn.  We talked about the leaves on the trees and how they change colour in the Autumn and then fall, as the sun is further away.  We looked at pictures of the beautiful colours of the leaves and compared them with the leaves in summer.  We read the story ‘Owl Babies’ and talked about how the baby owls felt at night when their mother went to find them food.  We learned that the days become shorter in Autumn and talked about which clothes are safer to wear to be see at night. We explored shining a torch onto a hi-vis vest to see how light reflected in the dark.   We also talked about animals that hibernate and how geese fly to warmer places for the winter and that this is called migration.  The children were able to share the facts they had learned for our learning wall display. We also talked about celebrations that happen in autumn such as Bonfire Night and Halloween. We also talked about Remembrance Day and why people wear poppies at this time of year. We watched the CBeebies short film about Remembrance which I will link to below.

In PSHE we learned to understand different emotions and talk about what makes us happy, sad or angry. We played a game where the children made different feelings faces to each other. Could they recognise the emotions showing on each others' faces?

We made such cute owl babies for our autumn display using natural object from outdoors such as leaves, sticks, feathers, etc.  We gave them googly eyes too and they look so cute!

In English this week we thought about clothes that we need for the Autumn.  The weather has turned colder so we knew that we need coats, hats, gloves, scarves and warm clothes. We then wrote simple sentences as a class, such as, "I put on a hat."

In Squiggle and handwriting we have practised the letters ‘a and d’

We explored 1, 2 and 3 this week.  We practised subitising those amounts and played a game where we looked to find who had the same number of spots as us on our card.  We then sorted different representations of 1,2 and 3 into groups and matched them to their numerals.  We also went on a hunt where we collected 1, 2 and 3 objects and put them with their numerals.  We dropped lots of counters onto a large piece of paper and looked to notice the amounts that we could subitise.  We drew around ones, twos and threes.

In Monster Phonics this week we learned the sounds f, ff, l, ll and ss.  We learned that a digraph is 2 letters that made one sound.  (ff, ss, ll).

Just a reminder that Monday 10th is Odd Socks Day in recognition of Anti Bullying Week. The theme is 'Power for Good'. The children may come into school wearing odd socks!  You can find more information on this on the main RPS channel on Parent Hub.  It is also Children in Need next Friday 14th. More information will be sent home, regarding this.

Have a lovely weekend.
