This week we have asked the question, ‘who helps to keep us healthy?’ We made a list of all the people who keep us healthy such as doctors, nurses, dentists and our parents! We talked about hospitals and the children’s experiences of hospitals, if they had ever been there. We learned all about what happens in a hospital and loved playing in the hospital role play. We also talked about our experiences of the dentist and talked about how we need to take care of our teeth by brushing twice a day, visiting the dentist and not eating too many sugary foods and drinks.

We carried out an experiment to find out what drinks were good or bad for our teeth. We placed an egg (to represent our teeth) in 4 different drinks – water, coca-cola, milk and orange juice. We talked about what we thought would happen to the egg shells and will find the answer next week!

In English we talked about instructions to brush our teeth. We ordered 4 pictures to help is talk about what we did, using language of first, then, next and finally. We then wrote words such as 'cup', 'tap' and 'gum' and the sentence 'It is a tap', in our books.

In maths We explored the composition of 1, 2 and 3 this week. We dropped 3 counters with red on one side, and yellow on the other, onto a piece of paper. We noticed the different ways the counters could fall such as 1 red and 2 yellow, 2 red and 1 yellow or 3 of the same colour. We then hid 3 pebbles in a cup and the teacher took out some. The children used their cardinal knowledge of 3 to say how many were left under the cup. We then enjoyed a bean bag game, where each person had 3 beanbags, threw them into a hoop and noticed how many were in and out of the hoop. Eg, 2 in and 1 out still equals 3 altogether. We also learned about one more and one less than a number through songs, such as One Elephant went out to play, on a spider’s web one day…..’

In Monster Phonics this week we learned the sounds j, v, w, x. We learned the Tricky Words: if, off, you, my, they, for.
Friday was Children in Need day and the children looked fabulous in their PJs and Pudsey clothes. We made Pudsey Bear masks, madew spotty leaves, coloured in spotty pictures and created a giant Pudsey in the main school with the rest of the school, by placing our bottle tops inside a big Pudsey outline.
This week is also Anti-Bullying week. On Monday, we all wore odd socks to school to represent the fact that we are all different. We talked a lot about what bullying is - a repeated unkind behaviour that such as hurting someone or being unkind to someone. We talked about the need to be kind and our feelings when others aren’t.
