WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Week 4

We’ve had another super week learning all about Antarctica. The children are full of facts about Antarctica and are really enjoying this topic.  We investigated which animals live in Antarctica and learned all about penguins.  We also loved painting our giant paper-mache model of Antartica. It's now all white and we can see the glacier, ice-shelves and icebergs.

Can you tell your grown-up which animals live in Antarctica and which don’t?

In maths this week we explored numbers 6, 7 and 8.  We sorted different representations of these amounts into their matching sets and also matched them to their numerals.  We then turned over a card showing a representation of 6, 7 or 8 and, using counters, showed this amount on a 10 frame.  We practised subitising these amounts, using our conceptual subitising skills to see a full 5 and 2 more, knowing that is 7, for example.

In English, we read a story called ‘Lost and Found’ by Oliver Jeffers.  It was about a penguin who was lost and a little boy found him, researched that he came from Antarctica and look him home.  He then missed him and went back for him.  It is a lovely story about friendship.  The children made a Lost poster to help to find him, by writing sentences to describe him, such as ‘He has big feet, he is sad’ etc

In Monster Phonics this week, we have learned the phoneme ‘ur’.  We read and wrote many words containing this sound.  Please see the Monster Phonics section, as usual, to practise the sounds learned so far.

In PSHE, we talked about how can care for others when they feel poorly. Teddy wasn't feeling very well, so we read to him, cuddled him, played games with him and made him a Get Well Soon card. Next week we will learn about medicines.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!
