Our Learning
We have had another busy week in Seals class! It has involved animal factfiles, castles and beasts!
English -
We have completed our narrative stories this week, with our inspiration being the Monkey King. We have seen some wonderful description, involving expanded noun phrases, relative clauses and fronted adverbials. The children have worked incredibly hard to edit and improve their writing and should be very proud of what they have written.
Maths -
In Maths, Year 5 have completed their second unit on Multiplication and Division. We began our second unit of fractions learning about how to multiply a unit fraction and a non-unit fraction by an integer. They also multiplied a mixed number by an integer and found the fraction of a quantity.
Year 6 have finished their decimals unit of work this week which has involved multiplying and dividing decimals by powers of 10 and by integers. Using this knowledge, the children have solved a range of multi-step problems in context. We will move on to fractions, decimals and percentages next week.
Geography -
Our Topic this week revolved around continuing to learn about the Yangtze River and what lives in it. The children researched the different animals that live in the Yangtze river and created fact files about them. We also began learning about the Great Wall of China, why it was built and why it is so important. Next week we will go on to designing and creating our own Great Wall of China, as well as seeing if it can withstand an invasion!
Homework –
Children have been given a piece of Maths and English homework this week which relates to the learning we have been doing in school. The tasks have been explained in school, but if you have any questions please do not hesitate to find me. Homework is due on Tuesday 10th February 2026.
