WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Week beginning 03.11.25

Our Learning

I hope you all had a brilliant half term. We have had a lovely first week back in Seals class. It has involved plotting, quizzing and fire!

English -

In English, we have begun focusing on poetry, linked to the Gunpowder Plot and Guy Fawkes. We have read and analysed a number of different poems all linked to this topic. We have thought about the figurative language in them and the different ways they are set out. We have then created our own versions of each of them. The Seals have all worked incredibly hard this week, creating amazing poems about Bonfire Night and the 5th November. I am so proud of each and every one of them for performing their poetry in front of the class!

Maths –

In Maths, Year 5 have been working on understanding factors, common factors and prime numbers. The children have been understanding the difference between a factor and a multiple, as well as how we can work out if a number is a prime number depending of what it ends with.

Year 6 have started their fractions unit of work this week. This has involved finding equivalent fractions, simplifying fractions, and ordering and comparing fractions.

History -

In History, we have learnt in detail about Queen Elizabeth I. The Seals researched her life, the incredible things that she did as a woman far ahead of her time, as well as some of the very difficult decisions that she had to make. They then chose how to present their information, either as a double page spread, a quiz or a small biography. The children presented their information in very imaginative ways and it was very impressive to see all of the things they had learnt about this fascinating woman.

Homework –

Children have been given Maths and English homework this week which relates to what we have been learning about in school. The tasks have been explained in class, but if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. Homework is due in school on Tuesday 11th November 2025.

Fire Safety-

Year 6 were lucky enough to be visited in school this week by a member of the Fire Service and Rescue Team. It was a brilliant and informative visit in which the children were taught how fires are caused, how to prevent fires, how to spot fire hazards in the home, how to check your smoke alarm, how to make an emergency call, what to do in a fire emergency, the damaging effects of hoax/prank calls, and much more! It was a fabulous opportunity for the children to learn more about fire safety and ask any questions they may have about fires and the work of the fire brigade.
