WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Week beginning 08.12.25

Our learning

We have had a fantastic week in Seals class. It has involved The Grinch, Christmas jumpers and many more festivities!

English –

At the beginning of the week, we wrote diary entries from the perspective of a British soldier during the Christmas Truce, 1914. We thought carefully about how that day would’ve been for the soldiers and tried our best to demonstrate empathy and historical understanding in our writing. The second half of our week has focused on our next Christmas-themed stimulus: The Grinch! So far this involved writing a variety of sentences (commands, exclamations and questions) through dictation, and making notes in preparation for next week’s writing task!

Maths –

Year 6 have been introduced to ratio this week. So far, this has involved identifying additive and multiplicative relationships, and completing ‘for every’ sentences to show relationships and make comparisons.

Year 5 this week have continued their fractions unit of work. This has involved adding and subtracting fractions.

History –

As our Tudor topic draws to a close, the children have been tasked with creating a double-page spread to showcase their knowledge about the Tudors. They have worked independently to plan and write their double-page spreads, thinking carefully about how to creatively present their information. The children have chosen their favourite topics and facts and have included these in their double-pages. I am looking forward to seeing their finished pieces!

Christmas crafts –

On Thursday, the children completed a variety of Christmas craft activities. They made wreath decorations, using only paper and cardboard, designed and created Christmas cards for a friend or family member, and carefully sketched photo-realistic portraits of Christmas icons (Mariah, Buble and more!).

Book Bus Fun!

Homework –

Children have not been given any homework this week. Instead, they have been given their practice papers to take home and look over. If children need any further support with these, please do not hesitate to email. Children are encouraged to read and practise their spellings/times tables alongside this.
