Our Learning
We have had yet another jam-packed week in Seals class! It has involved odd socks, pyjamas, power and much more!

English -
Our English work this week has been based on 'The Terrible Tudors' - a book from the Horrible Histories collection. Using Chapter 1 (Terrible Tudor Life - and Death!) as a stimulus, our writing this week has been centred around Tudor illnesses and cures. We discussed what it was like to live during the Tudor period and how health was impacted during this time, and uncovered the weird and wonderful ways wise women and doctors would assess and treat their patients. Using our knowledge of Tudor health and our skills of persuasion, we were first tasked with writing a persuasive advert for a Tudor cure. The children created some mad yet marvellous medicines for a variety of illnesses and used a range of persuasive devices to sell these to an audience! Later in the week, we created a 'Tudor Health Guide' to provide Tudor people with information relating to illnesses and treatments, along with helpful tips and advice for maintaining a healthy and hygienic (ish!) lifestyle!
Maths -
Year 5 this week have been multiplying by 10,100 and 1000 and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000.
Year 6 have continued their fractions work this week. This has involved adding and subtracting any two fractions, adding mixed number fractions, subtracting mixed number fractions, and answering mixed questions involving fractions.
History -
Our topic lessons this week have given us more insight into Tudor life, with a focus on Tudor clothing and Tudor food. On Monday, we discovered what clothing people would wear during the Tudor era and discussed why clothing was so important to people throughout this time period. We identified differences between the rich and the poor, including looking at the extravagant and expensive clothing we see in portraits of Tudor kings and queens, and differences between men and women. After learning about the various garments worn by different people, we designed an outfit that would be suitable for a ball thrown by King Henry VIII! Our second lesson of the week focused on food. We listed foods that would've been available during the Tudor period and again considered differences between the lifestyles of the rich and poor. After learning about Tudor foods, we were tasked with creating an appealing menu for a royal Tudor banquet!
Homework –
Children have been given a creative piece of homework this week which is to design a poster for anti-bullying week. The task has been explained in class but if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. The best posters will be displayed around school and the classroom!
Homework is due in school on Tuesday 18th November.
